The phrase spans an octave, musically reflecting this idea of "spread[ing]."
Unless stated otherwise, my source for hymn texts and tunes is The Lutheran Service Book.

"Spread the Reign of God the Lord"
Recently, I happened to see the title "Spread the Reign of God the Lord" and realized a way in which it connects to the melody to which it's sung, the first phrase of the tune "Gott sei Dank":

"Spread the Reign of God the Lord"
Last year, I noticed a detail in "Spread the Reign of God the Lord," sung to the tune "Gott sei Dank." Here's the third phrase:
In the first verse, the text here, describing where the reign of God is to be spread, is "Ev'rywhere His creatures call." "Ev'rywhere" is sung with a melisma (G C B A), and each syllable is sung to a different pitch. Both of these features provide a sense of breadth.

"Gott sei Dank" (TLH #114)
This is a bit of a shorter tune, so I went through it three times. The higher of the two bass parts goes below standard guitar tuning, so I didn't play that part.

"Gott sei Dank" (TLH #2)
I'm pretty sure this is the first tune I've recorded a second time since re-configuring this project in November. It was the first hymn tune I recorded in 2017 (it was actually the first piece of music of any sort that I recorded in 2017). The titles of the tunes in LW and LSB are formatted in all caps (save for in the index), so - despite my knowledge of German - I neglected to capitalize "Dank" back in January.

"Jesus! Name of Wondrous Love"
An-other hymn in which I noticed a textual/musical connection while flipping through my hymnal a few months ago is "Jesus! Name of Wondrous Love," sung to the tune "Gott sei dank." The second half of the first verse says that Jesus is the name "Unto which must ev'ry knee / Bow in deep humility" (Philippians 2:10) The musical phrase to which this is sung descends (generally), mirroring the bowing in the text:
