Psalm 80:14-19:  "14 Turn again, O God of hosts!  Look down from heaven, and see; have regard for this vine, 15 the stock that your right hand planted, and for the son whom you made strong for yourself.  16 They have burned it with fire; they have cut it down; may they perish at the rebuke of your face!  17 But let your hand be on the man of your right hand, the son of man whom you have made strong for yourself!  18 Then we shall not turn back from you; give us life, and we will call upon your name!

The first part of the passage from Psalm 80 (verses 14-16) is condensed into the lines "Lo, the hosts of evil round us / Scorn the Christ, assail His ways!" at the beginning of the second verse.  The rest of the passage appears more generally in the call to God in the first half of the first verse, which also continues the plant imagery from the Psalm:  "Bring its bud to glorious flow'r."

2 Timothy 1:7 appears partially in the lines "God of grace and God of glory, / On Your people pour Your pow'r" at the beginning of the hymn ("God gave us a spirit... of power") and partially in the lines "Save us from weak resignation / To the evils we deplore" at the beginning of the fourth verse ("God gave us a spirit... of... self-control").

The verse from Romans (specifically "by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope") overlaps with 2 Timothy 1:7 in the hymn's opening lines.

"'Fear not'" from Luke 12:32 seems to be the basis for the lines "From the fears that long have bound us / Free our hearts to faith and praise" in the second verse and for the recurring clause "Grant us courage."
