Last week, I watched
the Concordia University Wisconsin chapel service from 4 September. The reading was from Ephesians 6, and I noticed verse 16 in particular: "In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one." This seems to be the source of the imagery in the line "And with great spite their fiery darts are hurling" in the second verse of "Lord of Our Life."
