LSB #861 "Christ Be My Leader"

Biblical citations in the hymnal:  John 8:12; John 1:4, 14, 17; 14:6

John 8:12:  "Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'"

John 1:4:  "In him was life, and the life was the light of men."

John 1:14:  "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth."

John 1:17:  "For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ."

John 14:6:  "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.'"

John 8:12 and John 1:4 (Jesus as light) are both alluded to at the end of the first verse:  "Darkness is daylight when Jesus is there."

The truth mentioned in John 1:14, John 1:17, and John 14:6 appears in the second verse:  "Christ be my Teacher in age as in youth, / Drifting or doubting, for He is the truth."

John 14:6 actually appears throughout the hymn:  "He is the way" in the first verse, "He is the truth" in the second, and "He is the life" in the third.

There's a merism near the beginning of each verse ("by night as by day," "in age as in youth," and "in calm as in strife"), providing a sense of breadth or extent.
